Sledding Party

What better way to deal with our new fallen snow than with a party?!  The snow arrived just in time for our 2nd Annual Reading Buddy party.  Our party will be held on Monday afternoon with our 4th grade buddies.  They'll be sledding on the hill and enjoying a nice cup of hot chocolate afterwards!  Please make sure that your child comes to school with all of their winter gear!

Thank you to all of the families that came in for conferences this week.  Especially those that rearranged their schedules and were able to make it on Thursday evening.  It was great to talk with all of you!

Mrs. Williams is able to squeeze our class in on Wednesday afternoon to check out new library books. We weren't able to check out last week due to the book fair, so your child may have already returned their book.

Conferences will be held this week. Each conference is 20 minutes long, please make sure that you are here on time and I'll do my best to stay on schedule!

See you soon!

Pennies for Patients

Below is the note that was in last weeks Friday folder regarding Pennies for Patients -

Dear Parents:

It’s time to empty that coin jar, clean out those couch cushions and check your pockets for Pennies for Patients! Estimates indicate that $10.5 billion in loose change is sitting idle in American households! Let’s put some of that chunk of change to a good cause! Beginning on February 2, our school will be collecting spare change and other donations to support Pennies for Patients, a cancer education program and fundraiser benefiting The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. This organization makes good use of the money to fund research for a cure. All contributions are welcome throughout the month, in addition to the weekly themes. This morning the students at Shirley Hills were treated to a play given by the Climb Theater. Ask your child about times when they might have to use self-control!

Wednesday afternoon I will have a sub coming into teach the class. While the sub is teaching, I will be pulling kids one at a time to do some assessing for report cards. So, far the letters that we have taught are: a, b, c, d, e, f, h, j, m, p, s, t, and y. Students should recongize the letter (upper and lowercase) and be able to say the sound that it makes. The sight words that we have practiced are: I, a, the, see, to, he, with, have, was, you, of, for, are, my, his, as, can, and in. I will also be doing a fluency assessment. I look forward to sharing this information with you at our conference. You should have received a note in the last Friday folder with the date and time of the conference. Let me know if this time does not work for you.

Our letter this week is Y, sight word is in, and word family is -at.

Have a good week!
